Temporary Exhibitions
As well as permanent displays featuring the John Money and Ralph Hotere Collections, the Eastern Southland Gallery has two temporary exhibition spaces offering a changing programme of solo, group and touring exhibitions by national and international artists.

LINEAGE: 130 Years of Bosshard Jewellery
21 September - 23 November 2025
LINEAGE is a carefully chronicled examination of the professional heritage of Kobi (Jakob) Bosshard. It shows some of his own works as well as works from his father Heinrich Bosshard and his grandfather Jakob Bosshard. Photographs, drawings and memorabilia illustrate and document the jewellery-making tradition of this family over the last 130 years.

The Bosshard Browne Collection
21 September - 23 November 2025
Over the past few years, the Gallery has been fortunate to receive more than 60 gifts to the permanent collection from long-time supporters Patricia Bosshard Browne and Kobi Bosshard. The Bosshard Browne Collection celebrates and showcases works from the couple’s significant gift, and includes works by Philip Trusttum, Jeffrey Harris, Joanna Margaret Paul, Laurence Aberhart, Ian Scott and Russell Moses.

I See Red: Works from the Collection
29 November 2025 - 15 February 2026
I See Red brings together paintings, prints and sculpture that explore the colour red in all its shades. Selected from the Gallery’s permanent collection, the exhibition is an opportunity to showcase some favourites pieces, as well as some works that haven’t had an airing in some time. In some works red predominates while others feature only an accent of red.

Muka Studio: A Lithographic Legacy
6 December 2025 - 15 February 2026
This selling exhibition presents a selection of lithographs produced by Muka Studio. Started in 1984 in Grey Lynn, Auckland by Frans Baetens and Magda van Gils, for 27 years it was a workshop dedicated exclusively to printing lithographs in the traditional way, from lithographic stones.
