LINEAGE:
130 Years of Bosshard Jewellery
Exhibition: 21 September - 23 November
Floor Talk: 21 September, 2pm. Details
LINEAGE is a carefully chronicled examination of the professional heritage of Kobi (Jakob) Bosshard. It shows some of his own works as well as works from his father Heinrich Bosshard and his grandfather Jakob Bosshard. Photographs, drawings and memorabilia illustrate and document the jewellery-making tradition of this family over the last 130 years. Jakob Bosshard, Kobi's grandfather, opened his first shop in Uster, Switzerland in 1895. His son Heinrich (Kobi's father) took over the business in 1930, expanding it considerably. However, Heinrich's son Kobi broke with tradition and came to New Zealand in 1961 to carry on the family trade. He initially lived and worked in Akaroa with his family but moved to Dunedin to be nearer the cultural facilities and wider fraternity the larger city afforded. There he opened his landmark gallery and workshop Fluxus in 1983, with Stephen Mulqueen.
LINEAGE has been previously shown at Fluxus, Dunedin (1995), the Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt (1998) and The Forrester Gallery, Oamaru (2003).
