EASTERN SOUTHLAND
EMBROIDERERS’ GUILD
featuring works by Val Griffith-Jones
25 June – 24 July 2016
This bi-annual presentation of southern embroidery features both traditional and contemporary genres, developed over the past two years by members of the Eastern Southland Embroiderers’ Guild. The exhibition showcases a wide variety of techniques and media from cross stitch and hardanger, through to stump work and crewel (wool). This year’s exhibition will also feature a selection of pieces by special guest artist Val Griffith-Jones. Griffith-Jones is a textile artist whose work is rich with colour, humour, clever observation and compelling narrative. She has been telling stories and responding to life events by making two and three dimensional art since the 1980’s when her major exhibition Stuffed Stuff, broke visitor records.
